Sunday, September 30, 2001 | Cross Country
The University of Florida men's cross country team took second at the Greensboro Invitational in Greensboro, N.C. on Saturday. The Gators finished with 58 points. Idaho State won the meet with 39 points.
Junior Rolando Ortiz was Florida's top finisher in third place overall with a time of 25:27. Courtney Chambers and Steve Zieminksi also finished in the top ten, placing eighth overall with a time of 25:52 and 10th with a 25:55, respectively. The overall winner was Tommy Evans of High Point College with a time of 25:10. Florida's top athlete, Chris Duncan, and freshman Moise Joseph did not run.
"I was pleased with the performance of Rolando Ortiz," said Head Coach Doug Brown. "Cory Presnick also stepped it up today. We were glad to have Carlos Hinojosa back after he had back problems last weekend. I opted not to run Chris Duncan and Moise Joseph today to ensure that they will be 100 percent for the Pre-NCAA Invitational in two weeks. I am excited to see what we will be able to do there with a full squad at 100 percent."
