Men'sTennis Begins Qualifying At ITA All-American

Both individuals and each of the two University of Florida men's tennis doubles teams advanced with victories on Tuesday at the 2002 Icy Hot/ITA All-American Championships in Chattanooga, Tenn. After four days of prequalifying, action began Tuesday in the qualifying matches at the Champion's Club.
Senior Troy Hahn, who worked his way through the prequalifying stages, defeated Lovre Brajkovi (6-3, 6-3). Hahn will now face Stuart Waters of Iowa State in the round of 32. Senior Olivier Levant, ranked 92nd in the Omni Hotels Preseason Rankings as released by the ITA, edged Chris Martin of Illinois (6-4, 7-6 (4). Martin was ranked 88th by the same poll. With the win, Levant will go on to play 70th-ranked Guillaume Bouvier of Boise State.
Levant teamed up with classmate Eleazar Magallan in doubles play to defeat Georgia Tech's West Nott and Scott Schnugg (8-3). Levant and Magallan advanced to meet Trent Brendon and David Lowenthal of Wake Forest in the round of 16. Hahn also performed in the doubles draw with senior Matt Behrmann as the two bettered Jakub Ilowski and Michael Tarkowski from UL-Lafayette (8-3). Hahn and Behrmann next face Matt Baccarani and Chris Varga of Ball State
Both of Florida's singles matches will begin at 10 a.m. ET on Wednesday, while both doubles matches will get underway at 2 p.m. ET.
The 2002 Icy Hot/ITA All-American Championships will continue with qualifying continuing tomorrow, and the main draw set for Oct. 10-13.
