Gators Take Exhibition Opener 113-63

No. 7 Florida went on a 29-0 run in the first half and six players scored in double figures to lead the Gators to a 113-63 exhibition win over the Midwest All-Stars tonight at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.
"I think the thing that was most pleasing was the unselfishness of our basketball team," head coach Billy Donovan said. "It is always fun coaching guys that are as unselfish as that and will put their bodies on the line and try to win."
Sophomore center David Lee and freshman guard Anthony Roberson each scored 22 points. Lee connected on 11 straight shots and scored 14 of his points in the second half. Roberson also pulled down eight rebounds and had three steals.
"Coach said that one thing we had to focus on is that we all have roles and at some point the role is going to come to you," Roberson said.
In the first half Florida went on a 29-0 run over an eight minute stretch, with seven different players scoring. The Gators forced 17 turnovers in the first half to lead 62-24 at the half.
Senior guards Brett Nelson and Justin Hamilton combined for 22 points and 19 assists. Junior forward Bonell Colas scored 14 points, grabbed six rebounds and blocked two shots. Freshman guard Christian Drejer scored 13 points and Freshman forward Adrian Moss blocked a team-high five shots for the Gators.
Florida is now 16-3-1 in exhibition games under Donovan and has won eight consecutive exhibition openers. Tonight's win marks the Gators 11th century scoring game under Donovan in exhibition games.
Florida is set to host the EA Sports All-Stars next Monday, November 11 at 7 p.m. at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.
