Gator Track Teams Host Gator Invitational

The Florida track and field teams hosted the annual Gator Invitational in the O'Connell Center this afternoon. UF hosted 12 other teams in the final tune up meet for the SEC Championships. The Gators turned in six winners and 13 NCAA qualifiers combined between the men's and women's teams.
Jukina Dickerson tied the American collegiate record and set a new O'Connell Center record in the weight throw with her mark of 71-8.75. Dickerson now shares the mark with Dawn Ellerbe, formerly of South Carolina. Also in the weight throw, Candice Scott was second with a mark of 70-6.5. Kimberli Barrett improved her personal best with a provisional mark of 63-2.25. Erin Gilreath also improved her provisional mark with a 61-3.5. Scarlett Ekeroma and Jocelyn Schineller also turned in personal bests. Ekeroma marked at 56-11.75 and Schineller had a distance of 55-2.25.
Florida's women's distance medley relay team started the day with a bang, posting an automatic qualifying time of 11:20.11. The team consisted of Melissa DeLeon, Faith Rein, Kristina Bratton and Erin Merten and now has the second fastest time in the nation. Kamille Bratton was a provisional qualifier in the 800m with a time of 2:09.87. The defending SEC indoor champion, Kamille Bratton will defend her title in two weeks in hopes of marking the seventh straight season that a UF runner has won the 800m indoors.
The mile relay team of Amber Robinson, Rein, Yolanda Thompson and Nona Allen provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships with its time 3:40.50.
Josh Walker was third overall and the second collegiate finisher in the 55m hurdles. Walker improved his provisional time and his personal best with a 7.31 clocking. National leader Ron Bramlett of Alabama was the winner, improving his seed time to 7.03 seconds.
Chris Duncan set a personal best in the mile and improved his provisional status for the NCAA Championships with a mark of 4:03.55. Duncan's time ranks him in the top 10 among qualified runners. In the pole vault, Brian DaCunha improved his seasonal best by an inch, improving his provisional status for the NCAA Championships. DaCunha cleared 17-1.75.
Kyle Farmer was second overall in the 200m dash. Farmer had a time of 21.36. Ahmad Jasmine fiished in 21.98 and was ninth. Erik Newby was second in the triple jump with a mark of 50-10.75
Antonio Emperator finished fifth in the weight throw for the men's team. Emperator's mark of 60-8.5 is a seasonal best. Barrett was third in the women's shot put, improving her provisional status to 52-2.75.
Ana Salzano was third in the pole vault with a provisional height of 12-7.25. Teammate Megan Westfall was second overall with a 12-11 mark. Keyon Soley, in her first action this season, won the long jump with a mark of 18-10.25.
Next action for the Gators will be the SEC Championships Feb. 23 and 24 in Fayetteville, Ark.
