Baseball Defeats Florida A&M 11-5

No. 10/14/18 Florida took advantage of a 5.1- inning pitching performance from Mike Pete and a 14-hit offensive attack to register an 11-5 baseball victory Wednesday against Florida A&M at McKethan Stadium.

No. 10/14/18 Florida took advantage of a 5.1-inning pitching performance from Mike Pete and a 14-hit offensive attack to register an 11-5 baseball victory Wednesday against Florida A&M at McKethan Stadium. The victory improves Florida to 6-0 overall and drops Florida A&M to 2-6.

Gator starter Mike Pete (2-0) allowed five hits, two runs (two earned) and struck out a career-high six batters in his 68-pitch performance. A freshman from Brandon, Fla., Pete was making his second career start after throwing 3.0 innings against Mercer last Wednesday.

Designated hitter Aaron Sobieraj led the Gators at the plate with a 3-5, two-run, two-RBI performance. Third baseman Pat Osborn went 2-4 with two runs and RBI, Ryan Shealy finished 2-5, Mark Kiger went 2-4 with a run and Jonathan Tucker added a 2-4, two RBI day.

Florida built an early 2-0 lead as it scored one run apiece in both the first (Pat Osborn RBI single) and second (Jonathan Tucker RBI single) innings. The Gators went up 4-0 with two more runs in the fourth on a Tucker RBI single and error. UF tallied three more runs in the fifth taking as it scored two runs on an error with the bases loaded and Aaron Davidson's RBI single. The Gators made it 10-2 in the sixth with three more runs when Mark Kiger led off with a triple and scored on David Klebonis' sacrifice fly, Pat Osborn walked and Ryan Shealy singled. Aaron Sobieraj drove both home on a RBI single.

Florida A&M starter Mike Sills (1-1) took the loss after throwing 6.0 innings and 115 pitches. He allowed 13 hits and 10 runs (five earned). Florida improves to 9-0 in the series against Florida A&M.

Also seeing mound action for the Gators were Scot Drucker (0.2 IP), Jamie Goldfarb (2.0 IP) and Kevin Coleman (final 1.0 IP). Goldfarb struck out a career-high three batters.

Florida hosts Winthrop this weekend for a two-game series. Game times are 1:30 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
