CHICAGO-- Creighton's Terrell Taylor made a three pointer with two-tenths of a second left in the second overtime to knock out Florida, 83-82, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Fifth-seeded Florida (22-9) held an 82-80 lead with 29 seconds left but failed to inbound the ball and was whistled for a five-second call.
Taylor had a chance to end the game with a jumper at the end of the first overtime, but he just missed. After Junior Matt Bonner converted a three-point play to give Florida an 82-78 lead with 45 seconds remaining in the second extra frame, Taylor scored on a runner, pulling Creighton within two with 35 seconds left.
The 12th-seeded Bluejays were able to nail the threes, connecting on 13-of-30 from beyond the arc. Taylor made a game-high of eight treys. The Gators were 8-of-23 from three point land.
Nine Gators scored in the first half to give Florida a 38-31 advantage. James White led the team in scoring at the half with nine points, connecting on 3-of-3 from the three-point range. Creighton led for most of the first half until Bonell Colas tipped in a missed shot to give UF its first lead of the afternoon, 19-17, at the nine minute mark. Florida went on a 28-9 run to give the Gators a seven-point lead, 28-21, with 5:10 remaining in the half.
One of Taylor's threes tied the game 69-69 with 35 seconds left. Brett Nelson missed a jumper with five seconds left, which sent the game into overtime.
Udonis Haslem, the all-time winningest player in Florida history, led the Gators with 20 points. Nelson scored 13 points and Bonner was the other Gator in double figures with 10 points.
Seven of Florida's losses this season have come down to the final possession. The Gators have lost five four games by two points or less.
