Student-Athletes Honored for Academic Excellence

A record number of the University of Florida's student-athletes were honored at the 2002 Office of Student Life's award banquet for the academic achievement on Monday, April 15. All in attendance were members of the 2001 Southeastern Conference Academic all-conference team, but a number were awarded special honors for their exceptional success.
After opening comments by Dr. Keith Carodine, Associate Athletics Director for Academic Affairs and Dr. David R. Colburn, Provost the student athletes were treated to dinner followed by the award presentations.
Two standout presentations were given to basketball player Matt Bonner and soccer player Andi Sellers who were named as Verizon Academic All-America honors. The Kynes Scholars Award was given to men's swimmer Greg Reeves. Reeves also picked up the Doug Belden Award and the Outstanding Senior Leadership Award. The evening was capped off the honoring of the Master of Ceremonies and Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) president Hank Richardson who received the SEC Community Service Award.
More than 150 UF student-athlete were named to the SEC Academic All-SEC Honor Roll for the 2001-02 academic year, breaking the previous UF record of 133 honorees set a year ago.
