The top-ranked Florida women's tennis team defeated Auburn 4-0 Monday afternoon at the Varsity Courts in Auburn, Ala. This match originally was scheduled to be played on Sunday, but was pushed back a day due to severe weather.
The match was called when Florida's Alexis Gordon clinched the win for the Gators (14-0, 8-0 SEC), defeating Auburn's Liz Sauerborn on court four, 6- 0, 7-6. The Gators also took matches on courts two, three and five.
The matches on courts one and six did not finish play, as Florida led both matches in the third set.
"It was a long couple of days for us because of the weather, but we were able to get the win," UF head coach Roland Thornqvist said. "We'll have a shorter week to prepare for this week's matches against two of the best teams in the country. We will need to be more focused in our practice effort this week."
Florida plays its final two home matches of the regular season this week, when the Gators entertain Tennessee on Friday at 5 p.m., before welcoming No. 2 Georgia on Sunday to Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex. Florida enters the pair of matches with a remarkable 107-0 all-time home record against SEC opponents.
