Dowdy, a 6-4, 277 pound sophomore from Fayetteville, N.C., was moved from defensive end to defensive tackle prior to the start of spring drills and was converted over to offensive guard early in the spring after a rash of injuries at that position. Dowdy played with the second team at guard for much of the spring. In the 2001 season as a redshirt freshman, he played in two games at defensive end before hurting his knee prior to the Sept. 23rd Kentucky game and missing the remainder of the season.
“Ron put the team above his own desires this spring,” Zook said. “He made a great contribution to this team and he will continue to contribute significantly to the Gator football program.”
Florida will open its 2002 regular season on August 31 when UAB comes to Gainesville.
