Softball Loses First Game of SEC Tournament

Florida softball (32-34) lost its first game in the Southeastern Conference Thursday night at the Jim Frost Stadium in Chattanooga, Tenn. Florida only had two hits and gave up seven walks in the 5-0 loss to No. 3 LSU (50-9), the league's top team.
LSU scored the first run. In the first inning, after walking the bases loaded, freshman Mandy Schuerman threw a wild pitch that scored the runner from third. Christy Connor scored on a base hit by Tessa Lynam. The Tigers took a 3-0 lead on a sacrifice fly to right field by Julie Wiese.
LSU added another run in the second as Jennie Reeves scored on a RBI fielder's choice. Amanda Moore came in to replace Schuerman after three batters in the second. Moore went on to strike out six LSU batters and only allow one more run in the game.The Tigers extended their lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the sixth. Blair Smith got on base with a walk and scored three batters later on another RBI fielder's choice by Connor.
LSU pitcher Britni Sneed tied the SEC tournament record for individual strikeouts in a game with 11. Sneed and Kristin Schmidt combined for 12 strikeouts to tie the team record for strikeouts in a tournament game.The Gators will face Auburn tomorrow at 2 p.m. Auburn lost the 6 p.m. game this evening 5-3 to Georgia.
