Gator Trail Comes to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium
Friday, August 30, 2002 | General
The Gator Trail has made its way to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Two more Gators from t the City of Gainesville, Alachua County Visitors and Convention Bureau and Gator Trailblazers Gator Trails program were installed today. Both Gators are located on the north end of North-South Drive near the message boards facing University Drive. New Florida Head Gymnastics Coach Rhonda Faehn was on hand and the unveiling of the new Gators.
The gator on the right side of the street was given in memory of Dr. Joel Katz by his family. "Dr. Joel" was a lifetime Gator fan and the Gator depicts him as he looked when he went to Florida football games. The artist of the "Dr. Joel" Gator was Andrea Parks. The Gator on the left side of North-South Drive was sponsored by the University Athletic Association. The "Orange & Blue Gator", designed by artist Ed Rowe, is orange and blue and holds a Gator flag.
Gator Trails is modeled after similar projects in other cities, such as the Chicago Cow exhibit. There are over 50 Gators throughout the city of Gainesville that have been designed by Gainesville and Alachua county artists. The Gators will be on display until April 2003 at which time they will be auctioned off.
