Tuesday, December 9, 2003 | Football
Former University of Florida football head coach Doug Dickey (1970-1978) along with the members of the 2003 College Football Hall of Fame class will be inducted on Tuesday evening at the 46th Annual Awards Dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City. They will be officially enshrined at the Hall in South Bend in 2004.
Dickey dedicated his career to SEC athletics, as he maintained a tradition of excellence at the University of Florida and rejuvenated the Tennessee football program. In 1970, Dickey was named head coach at UF where he had played from 1951-53. In his nine-year career at Florida, the Gators went 58-43-2 and earned four bowl appearances. Dickey's combined record from his time at Tennessee and Florida stands at 104-58-6.
On March 24, 2003, Jon F. Hanson, Chairman of The National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame announced the 2003 College Football Hall of Fame Division I-A Class.
