Former University of Florida women's basketball head coaches Carol Ross and Mickie DeMoss returned to the head coaching ranks on Tuesday.
Ross was recommended to become the next head coach of the University of Mississippi program, Athletics Director Pete Boone announced today. The recommendation is pending approval of the Board of Trustees, State Institutions of Higher Learning.
A few hours following the announcement at Ole Miss, DeMoss accepted the head coaching position at the University of Kentucky. DeMoss was the third head coach in Gator history, leading Florida to a 45-68 record from 1979-83. After leaving UF, she served as an assistant coach at Auburn and then at her most recent position at Tennessee, where she will continue to work through the Lady Vols' NCAA Tournament run.
Ross returns to her alma mater, where she played from 1978-81. She resigned from Florida on March 22, 2002, as the winningest coach in Gator history, posting a 12-year record of 247-121.
"We are excited and happy for Carol," UF Athletics Director Jeremy Foley said. "Everyone here thinks the world of her and we know she will do a terrific job for Ole Miss."
