First Day of Coca-Cola Florida Relays Complete

The first day of the 60th annual Coca-Cola Florida Relays is in the book with Fiona Asigbee of Missouri leading the heptathlon, while Fred Townsend of South Carolina leads the decathlon. The remaining events in those two competitions will be completed Thursday morning.
Asigbee totaled 3,372 points through the first four events, finishing no lower than fifth in any event, including two second-place finishes. Asigbee was the runner-up in the 100m hurdles (14.31) and in the high jump (1.76m/5-9.25). South Carolina's Antoinette Wilks won the 200m hurdles in 13.84 and the 200m dash in 24.62. She currently sits in second place with 3,188 points. Chelsea Hammond of South Carolina won the high jump with her mark of 1.79m/5-10.50, and Quanisha Gerald won the shot put with a mark of 13.58m/44-6.75 while competing unattached.
After five events, Townsend leads the decathlon with a total of 3,988 points. Townsend won three events en route to his lead - the 100m dash (11.03), the high jump (2.16m/7-1.00) and the 400m dash (49.21). Missouri's Hans Olaf Uldel, who sits in second place with 3,844 points, won the long jump with a mark of 7.25m/23-9.50). Knut Sommerfeldt of Missouri won the shot put with a throw of 13.78m/45-2.50.
Florida's Matt Thompson is in 16th place with 3,206 points after finishing seventh in the 100m dash (11.28), 22nd in the long jump (5.65m/18-6.50), 16th in the shot put (11.16m/36-7.50), 18th in the high jump (1.74m/5-8.50) and sixth in the 400m dash (51.16).
The Coca-Cola Florida Relays will continue through Saturday, March 29. Admission is $5.

Former Gator John Capel to Sign Autographs Saturday
John Capel, former Gator Olympian, is slated to sign autographs Saturday, March 29, from 1-3 p.m. under the grandstands of Percy Beard Stadium.
