No. 1 Florida Women's Tennis Sweeps Arkansas
Saturday, March 8, 2003 | Women's Tennis
The top-ranked Florida women's tennis team won its second road match in a 24-hour span, posting an impressive 7-0 victory over Arkansas (7-4, 0-3 SEC) at Dills Indoor Tennis Center.
The Gators (12-1, 3-0 SEC) flew into Fayetteville late Thursday evening after defeating 17th-ranked Texas 6-1 in Austin earlier that day. Florida next plays at LSU on Sunday afternoon in Baton Rouge, taking the court for the third time in four days.
"I'm extremely pleased with the way we're handling this road trip," UF head coach Roland Thornqvist said. "Our travel plans have been challenging, but everyone is responding to the adversity in such a positive way. The players have come out very focused on the court and it shows in their results."
Florida, which posted its third sweep of an SEC opponent in as many matches, handed Arkansas its first home loss in seven matches this season.
Senior Julia Scaringe played the No. 1 singles position for the first time in her career, and posted an impressive 6-1, 6-1 victory to lead the Gators.
