The No. 8 University of Florida men's swimming team saw four individuals and one relay team place in the top-10 at the All-American Invitational at the Jamail Center in Austin, Tex. Saturday night.
The Gators were led by freshman Nick Borreca's (Honolulu, Hawaii) third place performance in the 50-yard freestyle. Borreca's time of 20.82 was one one-hundredth of a second off of his fastest time in the event this season (20.81).
Borreca was also a part of UF's 200-yard freestyle relay team that took fifth place out of 16 teams in the event. The team of Borreca, Bryan Yasinsac (Tallahassee, Fla.), Will Ratliff (Mt. Sterling, Ky.) and Andrew Greener (Delray Beach, Fla.) finished in a time of 1:24.00.
Two Gators placed among the top-eight in the 200-yard butterfly, as sophomore Justin Zumsteg (Rochester, Mich.) and freshman Elliot Meena (Orlando, Fla.) finished seventh and eighth respectively. Zumsteg swam a time of 1:49.37, while Meena followed right behind in a time of 1:50.07.
Sophomore Corey Welch (Larksville, Pa.) was UF's other top-10 finisher, as he placed eighth in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:01.57, which was good enough to meet the qualifying standard in the event for the U.S. Nationals next month.
The All-American Invitational will conclude Sunday, March 9 with preliminaries beginning at 9 a.m. and the finals starting at 4 p.m.
