Records Fall at SEC Track Invitational

University of Florida's Candice Scott set the collegiate record in the weight throw, and the men's 4x400m relay team of Sekou Clarke, Reggie Witherspoon, Rickey Harris and Kerron Clement clocked the nation's fastest time (3:09.42 ) in their win in the event in Sunday at the SEC Track Invitational at the O'Connell Center. The men's team tallied eight wins on the day, while the women added four.
Scott's throw of 22.82m/74-10.50 broke the record of 22.72m/74-6.50 set last week by her teammate Kim Barrett, and Rachel Longfors added an automatic qualifying mark of 19.90m/65-3.50 to finish fourth overall. Karen Freberg's fifth-place mark of 19.25m/63-2.00 was good for a provisional qualifying mark.
For the second consecutive week, Antonio Emperator re-set his own school record in the weight throw with his mark of 20.41m/66-11.50. Michael Morrison tallied a win in the high jump, clearing 2.15m/7-00.50 in his first-ever collegiate high jump competition to move into a tie for eighth on UF's all-time list.
Barrett set the fieldhouse record in the shot put with her winning mark of 16.94m/55-7.00, breaking Scott's record from last week. LaQuanda Cotten followed Barrett with a provisional qualifying mark of 16.10m/52-10.00, which moves her into fifth in school history in the event. In the 55m hurdles, Andrea Bliss crossed the finish line in 7.66 to win the 55m hurdles, and the 4x400m relay team of Tiandra Ponteen, Kamille Bratton, Andrea Bliss and Novlene Williams capped off the day with a win in the relay in a provisional qualifying time of 3:38.06. Earlier in the day, Krystle Moss cleared a SEC-leading height of 5-10.00 to win the high jump and provisionally qualify.
Morrison added another victory to his total with a win in the long jump (7.55m/24-9.25). Ryan McIntyre claimed the win in the shot put with a mark of 17.49m/57-4.75, and Chip Heuser rounded out the field event wins for the Gators with a victory in the pole vault (5.30m/17-4.50), moving into fifth-place all-time in the event.
In the running events, Kyle Farmer won the 55m dash with a time of 6.33, while the 4x400m relay team won in an automatic qualifying time of 3:09.42. Brent Schneider added a win in the 3,000m, clocking in at 8:37.20.
Shane Stroup provisionally qualified in the mile, clocking in at 4:02.87 to finish second and moving into sixth place all-time in school history in that event. Josh Walker also moved up on the 55m hurdles all-time list with his second-place and automatic qualifying mark of 7.17. Walker's mark ties him for second place on UF's all-time list in the event, just .02 off the school record. Clement provisionally qualified in the 55m hurdles and the 200m dash.
For the women, Bliss's time of 7.64 in the preliminaries of the 55m hurdles was a provisional qualifying time, and Novlene Williams also provisionally qualified in the 200m dash in 24.15. Kamille Bratton rounded out the provisional qualifiers with a time of 2:08.86 to finish third in the 800m.
Former Gator Erin Gilreath set the fieldhouse, American and world records in the weight throw Sunday with her winning mark of 23.95m/78-7.00.
