University of Florida soccer player Melanie Booth (Burlington, Ontario) is a member of Soccer America's Freshmen All-America team announced Friday by the magazine. Booth is the first Gator to receive the honor since 1998 when Abby Wambach and Keisha Bell were both recognized for stellar freshmen campaigns.
The first year defender led Florida with 11 assists in 2003 and was second in minutes played (2,121), averaging over 80 per contest. Booth was also second team All-Southeastern Conference and is currently a finalist for the Soccerbuzz.com Freshman of the Year award, which will be announced, in the next few weeks.
The Gator soccer team turned in a 19-4-2 record in 2003 and advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinal Round. Florida is ranked No. 8 in the final NSCAA poll.
