Men's Track & Field Releases 2005 Schedule

The 2005 University of Florida men's track and field team released its indoor and outdoor schedules for the 2005 seasons Wednesday.
Florida enters the 2005 season coming off the finest season in UF history as the Gators finished second at the 2004 NCAA Outdoor Championships and in a tie for second at the NCAA Indoor Championships, while the Gators also won the 2004 SEC Indoor title and the 2004 NCAA East Regional Championships title.
The Gators return nine individuals who earned 11 All-America honors at the Indoor Championships, while six athletes who earned nine All-America honors at the Outdoor Championships return. Florida also returns its complete NCAA Outdoor 4x100 title winning team of Mike Morrison (Willingboro, N.J.), Ahmad Jasmine (Baton Rouge, La.), Kyle Farmer (Columbia, Md.) and Sekou Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica) in addition to NCAA 400m hurdles champion Kerron Clement (Laporte, Texas) and NCAA 110m hurdles champion Josh Walker (Stone Mountain, Ga.).
"I feel that our indoor and outdoor schedules set us up to progress toward being ready to compete for the SEC, NCAA Regional and NCAA Championship meets," said Florida head coach Mike Holloway, the 2004 SEC Indoor and NCAA East Region Coach of the Year. "With the level of competition we face during the championship season, I feel it is important to face this sort of competition during the regular season and our schedule certainly reflects that."
The Gators will make their debut by hosting the Florida Intercollegiate Jan. 15 in Gainesville for the indoor season before traveling to Lubbock, Texas for the Red Raider Invitational Jan. 22. Florida returns home for the Gator Invitational Feb. 6 before traveling to the Iowa State Classic Feb. 11-12. The Gators will defend their 2004 Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships title Feb. 25-27 in Fayetteville, Ark. before holding a Last Chance Meet in Gainesville March 3. The NCAA Indoor Championships will be held in Fayetteville March 11-12 where the Gators will look to repeat their success from last season when Florida finished in a tie for second.
The 2005 outdoor season kicks off with the Florida Relays March 23-26 in Gainesville. The Gators then travel to Austin, Texas for the Texas Relays April 7-9 before taking part in the Miami Gatorade Invitational April 16. The Gators next stop is the prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia April 28-30 before Florida will participate in the 2005 SEC Outdoor Championships in Nashville, Tenn. May 12-15. The NCAA East Regional Championships will be held May 27-28 before the NCAA Outdoor Championships June 8-11 in Sacramento, Calif.
