Florida Football Places Six on ALL-SEC Coaches' Teams
Tuesday, December 7, 2004 | Football
The University of Florida football team placed six players on the 2004 All-Southeastern Conference Coaches' Football Team, the league announced late Monday.
Senior offensive guard Mo Mitchell notched a first-team offensive nod. Florida has placed at least one offensive player on the coaches' first-team since the awards' inception in 1982.
Sophomore Channing Crowder received first-team defensive honors despite playing in just eight games. The linebacker led the team in tackles with 70 and fumble recoveries with two. Crowder is one of only two sophomores to get a first-team nod this year.
Florida led all schools with three players selected to the second team offense. Senior O.J. Small, junior Mike Degory, and junior Ciatrick Fason all received second team nods from the coaches. Small led the SEC this season in receptions per game and Fason led the SEC in rushing yards (1,173) and was second in total touchdowns with 12. Degory has started every game of his Gator career, which now stands at 37 straight contests.
Sophomore linebacker Earl Everett received second-team defensive honors. Everett was the one constant in the linebacker corps as the group was hampered by injuries for much of the year. Everett played in every game and was second on the team with 69 tackles.
There were no unanimous selections to this year's All-SEC squad. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players, thus a unanimous selection earns 11 of 12 first-team votes. The All-SEC squad had 18 first-team seniors, 10 were underclassmen, including eight juniors and two sophomores.
