No. T2 UF Women's Tennis Defeats FSU 6-1

For the first time in 23 days, the second-ranked University of Florida women's tennis team was in action as the Gators defeated No. 52 Florida State, 6-1 on Wednesday night in Gainesville. With the win, UF improved its record to 3-0 on the season in winning its 20th straight match, while the Seminoles slipped to 6-2.
"After the time off, to play a tough match and win is the best thing that could have happened to the Florida Gators," said UF Head Coach Roland Thornqvist. "We got tested on all six courts in singles and at the top of the doubles line up. We had to work out of a couple of jams. We feel like we are in the middle of the season now and that was not the case a couple of days ago."
UF used the middle of the lineup to win the match as Jennifer Magley (No. 16) clinched things by holding off FSU's Lindsay Deason on court three (6-2, 7-6 (5)). In doing so, Magley won posted the 50th singles match victory of her career, as she is 50-12 while at UF.
Seconds earlier, Zerene Reyes had put the Gators within a point of clinching the match as she also had a straight set win over Denny (6-2, 6-3) on court four. On court six, Nina Suvak took out Florida State's Amberly Tantee 6-2, 2-6, 6-0. UF built the lead to 6-0 before Florida State got on the board as Lindsay Dawaf defeated Roxanne Clarke (6-1, 4-6, 7-5) and sixth-ranked Alexis Gordon fought past 63rd-ranked Anca Dumitrescu at the top court (4-6, 7-6 (5), 10-8).
The Gators made it a clean sweep in the doubles picking up wins on all three courts. UF's 33rd-ranked Boglarka Berecz and Suvak gave up the first point of their match on court No. 3 against FSU's Christina Denny and Brooke Cordell before reeling off wins in eight straight games. Florida seized the doubles point in just over an hour when 13th-ranked Magley and Reyes took over a match that was tied at three and cruised to an 8-3 victory over Lindsay Deason and Anca Dumitrescu. Moments later, UF's eight-ranked Gordon and Julie Rotondi followed when the tandem outlasted Roxanne Clarke and Mihaela Moldovan, 9-7.
Florida will be back in action on Sunday as the Gators take on No. 16 Texas at 2 p.m. in Gainesville.
