The University of Florida men's track and field 2004 class has been ranked the No. 1 class in the nation by Track and Field News, the publication announced this week. The primary criterion for the ranking is the number of Track & Field News High School All-Americas in the recruiting class.
Last year, Head Coach Mike Holloway signed no fewer than four Track & Field News High School All-Americans, including two who finished in the top nine in the Athlete of the year voting. Those athletes have already made names for themselves on the track and in the field.
Kerron Clement (Laporte, Texas) has provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the 60m hurdles (7.85), the 200m dash (21.08) and the 400m dash (46.70) and has automatically qualified as a member of the 4x400m relay team (3:06.27), along with fellow freshman Reggie Witherspoon (Marietta, Ga.).
Mike Morrison (Willingboro, N.J.) has provisionally qualified in the long jump (7.65m/25-1.25), and has the best mark of any Gator in the high jump this season. Chip Heuser (Louisville, Ky.) has provisionally qualified in the pole vault, clearing 5.35m/17-6.50 for the best mark of a Gator this season in the event.
