Thursday, May 6, 2004 | Women's Tennis
The University of Florida's Alexis Gordon and Jennifer Magley were selected to compete in the NCAA Singles Championships 64-player field, which was announced by the NCAA Committee Thursday evening. Additionally, Gordon and Julie Rotondi were selected to the NCAA Doubles Championships.
The Gator doubles team of Magley and Zerene Reyes were named as the second alternate tandem in the 32-team doubles field. Reyes is the eighth alternate into the singles event.
The NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships will be held at Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia, hosted by the University of Georgia and run from May 24-29.
Gordon, who is the second-ranked singles player in the country, will be playing in her first NCAA Singles Championship. She was selected to participate in 2003, but withdrew due to illness. Magley also will be making her NCAA Singles Championships debut this May. Gordon and Rotondi each played in last year's NCAA Doubles Championships but with different partners. The duo of Magley and Reyes, who are ranked No. 20 in the country, reached the semifinal round last year.
