University of Florida women's golf head coach Jill Briles-Hinton announced the signing of Sandra Gal (Leichlingen, Germany) and Ornella Jouven (La Ciotat, France) to National Letters of Intent and will join the Lady Gators for the 2004-05 season.
"Both of these golfers work with teaching professionals at the IMG Academy," Briles-Hinton said. "Sandra and Ornella bring more stability to the program. They want a solid education and a great college golf experience, which they will get at the University of Florida."
Gal, a member of the German National Ladies Team, was No. 1 in the German Girls National Rankings and was named the Golfer of the Year by the German Golf Union in 2003. Gal won three events in 2003, including the German Girls National Championship (77-71-66).
"Sandra has a lot of experience playing internationally," Briles-Hinton said. "She's tall, athletic, and has a powerful swing. She has good fundamentals. Sandra will adjust to collegiate golf quite well because of her playing experience, and she's used to the challenges that traveling presents."
Jouven graduated from high school in Oct. 2003 and took some time off from golf to focus on her studies. She recently finished second in a tournament in Ft. Myers, Fla.
"Ornella is my first left-handed golfer at Florida," Briles-Hinton said. "She took a couple of years off from golf, but now she's back playing. Ornella has good fundamentals and she brings a lot of enthusiasm and experience to our program."
Gal and Jouven join the other four signees for the upcoming season: Whitney Myers (East Berlin, Penn.), C.J. Kim (Rowland Heights, Calif.),Tiffany Chudy (Miramar, Fla.) and Eleanor Tucker (Wilson, N.C.).
