Ponteen Claims Win In 400m At NACAC Championships

Tiandra Ponteen won the 400m on the second day of competition at the 2004 North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletic Association Championships on Saturday at Université de Sherbrooke Stadium.
The United States team, which is being coached by UF men's track and field coach Mike Holloway, also fared well during the second day, winning 10 of 12 events. The U.S. team captured seven of 10 event finals on the first day of the meet on Friday.
Ponteen took home first in the 400m with a time of 51.19, beating 2004 NCAA Outdoor champion Dee Dee Trotter of Tennessee, who was second in 51.46. Ponteen also defeated UCLA's Monique Henderson, who took second at NCAAs and finished third on Saturday. The school record holder in the event, Ponteen will next compete for St. Kitts in the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
