Florida Men's Hoops To Travel To Bahamas Labor Day Weekend
Tuesday, August 10, 2004 | Men's Basketball
The University of Florida men's basketball will make its first international trip in four years over Labor Day weekend, as the Gators will play three games in Nassau, Bahamas.
The Gators will face a trio of teams from the top league in the Bahamas, playing twice on Sept. 4 and once on Sept. 5.
On Sept. 4 the Gators will open up with a 1 p.m. tilt against the Wolverines, a squad that fell to Alabama 95-72 a year ago. They will return to action at 8 p.m. the same night against the Explorers.
The final game will be a 1 p.m. contest with the Wreckers, a team that fell 89-73 to an NIT All-Star team that included Kirk Snyder, formerly of Nevada and a first round draft pick in June, and Taliek Brown of 2004 national champion Connecticut.
Florida will have 10 practices to prepare for the trip beginning on Aug. 23. All practices are closed to the public.
Florida is making its first international trip since 2000 when the Gators traveled to France, Germany, Monaco and Switzerland.
The Gators return all five starters and three All-SEC players from a squad that went 20-11, reached the SEC Tournament Championship game for just the fourth time in school history and made its sixth straight NCAA appearance.
