Wednesday, September 29, 2004 | Women's Golf
The No. 11 University of Florida Lady Gator golf team will travel to Franklin, Tenn., to compete in the Mason Rudolph tournament, hosted by Vanderbilt on the Legends Club golf course. The three-day tournament will begin on Friday, Oct. 1, at 8 a.m. and play will end on Sunday, Oct. 3.
This will be Florida's third appearance at the Mason Rudolph. Last year, the Lady Gators took fourth at the event and in 2001, the team finished ninth.
The tournament features nine of the top 25 teams in the latest Golfweek rankings, including No. 1 Duke, No. 5 Georgia, No. 6 Missouri, No. 7 UCLA, No. 11 Florida, No. 14 Tulane, No. 15 LSU, No. 16 Texas and No. 24 Furman. Also competing in the field will be North Carolina State, SMU and North Carolina. Last year's Mason Rudolph champion, Georgia, will return to the course to defend their 2003 title.
The line-up for UF will feature (in order) senior Andrea Vander Lende (Longwood) who is the most seasoned Gator, competing in over 97 rounds of golf for UF since her debut at the Mason Rudolph in 2001. Freshman Tiffany Chudy (Miramar) is second, coming off a solid performance in the last tournament, the Topy Cup, where she carded a 222 in three rounds of play (75-73-74).
Sandra Gal (Leichlingen, Germany) is making her collegiate debut at the Mason Rudolph and will compete third for the Lady Gators. Freshman Whitney Myers (East Berlin, Penn.) will follow Gal. Myers finished the Topy Cup first for UF, finishing the three-day tournament with a 218, the team low so far this season.
Fifth for Florida, CJ Kim (Rowland Heights, Calif.) will compete and try to top her performance at the Topy Cup, where the freshman fired a 220 (75-75-70). Competing as an individual, junior Tarah McNaughton (Bradenton) will begin her 2004-05 season play at the Mason Rudolph.
Results from the tournament will be available at www.GatorZone.com upon completion of each day's event.
