Friday, October 7, 2005 | Women's Tennis
UF's Diana Srebrovic and Boglarka Berecz lost their respective second round singles matches Friday morning at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships.
Srebrovic, who had not dropped a set through her first seven matches of the season, fell Stanford's eighth-seeded Alice Barnes 6-3, 6-4. Berecz lost to second-ranked Susie Babos of California 6-1, 6-2 to complete the Gator's main draw appearance at the first collegiate Grand Slam of the year.
Both Gators were playing their fifth match in four days, working their way through the qualifying draw to earn an appearance in the main event where they reached the round of 16.
“We just ran out of steam,” UF associate head coach Dave Balogh said. “Their opponents, Barnes and Babos really played well, though. We had a good run in the tournament and learned a lot.”
In consolation action Jennifer Magley defeated Georgia's Natalie Frazier 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the quarterfinal round. The Gator doubles team of Magley & Srebrovic downed Indiana's Sarah Batty & Laura McGaffigan 9-7, while the pair of Berecz & Lolita Frangulyan withdrew from their consolation first round contest.
