VB Athletes, Staff Pay Visit To Shands Children's Hospital
Wednesday, November 23, 2005 | Volleyball
Athletes and staff members of the University of Florida volleyball team made their annual visit to the pediatric ward at Shands Children's Hospital on Wednesday just in time to lift the spirits of children and families in time for the holidays.
In a tradition that dates to 1993, the Gator volleyball team visited the children of the pediatric ward with all kinds of goodies in stow. Members of the team put smiles on the faces of the children as they played games and tossed out an assortment of Gator items – t-shirts, mini-volleyballs and seat cushions to name just a few.
Florida first started visiting Shands in 1993 and has turned that initial event into a Thanksgiving holiday tradition. Florida couldn't visit the pediatric ward on Thanksgiving this year because the Gators had to board a plane to travel to Denver, Colo., for the Wells Fargo Thanksgiving Tournament.
