Tuesday, November 29, 2005 | Baseball
University of Florida head baseball coach Pat McMahon and assistants Tim Parenton and Brian Fleetwood will be among the featured speakers at the Florida Athletic Coaches Association Baseball Clinic held at the Daytona Beach Hilton-Oceanfront Resort in Daytona Beach between Thursday and Saturday, Dec. 1-3.
The 2005 Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year will discuss "Offense and Defense… The Little Things" on Thursday afternoon following the welcome and announcements by FACA State Baseball Chairman John Crumbley. McMahon is in his fifth year leading the Gators and directed the team to a runner-up showing at the NCAA College World Series last June with an overall record of 48-23. He was also named the College Baseball Foundation National Coach of the Year and the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) South Region Coach of the Year after guiding UF to its first league crown since 1998.
Now in his fourth season on the staff in Gainesville, Fleetwood's topic is titled "The Last Line of Defense - Developing an Outfield." Parenton, the Gators' second-year hitting coach, oversaw an offense that finished in the top-six on the school's all-time list in total bases (1,102), hits (720), runs (511), runs batted in (450), walks (331) and home runs (85) during the 2005 campaign. Under his tutelage, Florida ranked in the top-five in seven of the SEC's 14 offensive categories. Parenton will discuss "Improving Your Offense with Specialized Four-Station Batting Practice."
The Gators will kick off their 2006 season on Friday, Feb. 10, when Cincinnati visits McKethan Stadium at Perry Field for the opener of a three-game series.
