Three Gators Compete in Women's Weight Throw at 98th Annual Millrose Games

Senior All-American Candice Scott (Port of Spain, Trinidad) took home second place in the weight throw competition at the 98th annual Millrose Games Friday with an NCAA automatic qualifying toss of 23.47m/77-0.
Junior All-American Rachel Longfors (Erhard, Minn.) placed third in the weight throw with an NCAA provisional mark of 20.21m/66-03.75 and senior Liz Wanless (Belleville, Ill.) took fourth with an NCAA provisional mark of her own of 19.24m/63-01.25. It was Wanless' first action in the weight throw this season.
"I was really impressed with all of our performances today," Florida Associate Head Coach Larry Judge said. "I thought the young ladies competed very well in a very prestigious meet."
Former Gator and world record holder Erin Gilreath won the weight throw Friday breaking the event record with a toss of 23.93m/78-06.25.
The 98th annual Millrose Games featured more than 25 Olympians as well as top college and high school athletes. Held annually since 1908, the Millrose Games is the nation's longest-running invitational track meet, Madison Square Garden's longest running sporting event and a highlight of USA Track & Field's annual "Visa Championship Series."
Scott, Longfors, Wanless, and the rest of the Gators return to action Sunday, Feb. 6 at the Gator Invitational in the Stephen C. O'Connell Center beginning at 10:30 a.m. Admission is free.
