Lee Fifth In Decathlon After Day 1 At Coca-Cola Florida Relays

University of Florida sophomore Kurt Lee (Spring Hill, Fla.) is fifth in the decathlon after the first day of competition at the 62nd annual Coca-Cola Florida Relays presented by GRU held Wednesday afternoon at James G. Pressly Stadium at Percy Beard Track.
The collegiate decathlon and heptathlon were the only events contested on the opening day of the Florida Relays, which will bring in more than 3,000 athletes from more than 300 high schools and universities throughout the four-day event.
Lee stands in fifth place after five events with 3,039 points with Matt Frith of Florida State leading the event with 3,373. Lee's best event of the day came in the 100m dash when he finished third in 11.45 to earn 763 points. He also finished fourth in the 400m with a time of 53.20 to earn 673 points.
The Florida women's track & field team will begin competition Thursday.
The Coca-Cola Florida Relays presented by GRU continues Thursday with the decathlon set to begin at 9:30 a.m. followed by the heptathlon at 10:30 a.m. The women's open hammer is slated for a noon start with the men's hammer at 4 p.m. The distance carnival for high school and collegiate athletes begins at 6 p.m. with the girls' high school 4x1,600m.
