University of Florida senior All-American Liz Wanless (Belleville, Ill.) has been named Southeastern Conference Field Athlete of the Week for the third time this year, the league office announced Wednesday.
It is the second week in row a Florida athlete has been honored by the league office as Rachel Longfors claimed honors a week ago. Florida field athletes have now pulled in eight athlete of the week nods in 2005, by far the most in the conference.
On April 23 at the Olympic training center in Clermont, Fla. Wanless became just the 12th American woman to ever throw 60 feet in the shot put. Her heave of 18.50m/60-08.50 is a school record, an NCAA best in 2005, and the ninth best mark in the world so far this year
The third ranked University of Florida women's track and field team returns to action April 28 at the prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa.
