Thursday, April 7, 2005 | Men's Track and Field
Senior Dwight Ruff (Sicklerville, N.J.) posted the second-fastest time in the preliminary rounds and the third-best in the Southeastern Conference this season in the 400-meter hurdles to advance to the finals for the No. 2 University of Florida track & field team on Thursday afternoon at the 2005 Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
The 400m hurdles represented the only event with Gator participants during the second day of competition at the Texas Relays. The bulk of Gator competitors will hit the track on Friday.
Ruff won his heat with a time of 50.39 in his first 400m hurdle race of the season. His mark was a regional qualifying time and the second-fastest of the 50 competitors on the day. Freshman Joe Taylor (West Palm Beach, Fla.) also competed for the Gators and shaved more than a second off his time last week to finish 14th in 52.59. He was just seven hundredths of a second away from advancing and eight hundredths off a regional time.
The Texas Relays continue Friday through Saturday. Live results can be found at www.texassports.com
