Friday, May 20, 2005 | Women's Golf
The University of Florida women's golf team moved up two spots during the third round of the 72-hole NCAA Women's Golf Championship on Thursday, to occupy a tie for 10th. Florida fired a low round of 297 today on the Meadows Course to end the first 54 with a 902 (301-304-297, +50). The Lady Gators trail the tournament leader, Duke (873), by 29 strokes.
Florida SEC rival, Auburn, is in second place after recording an 881 (+29). UCLA is in third with an 882 (+30), while Pepperdine dropped to fourth today after leading the 24-team tournament field after yesterday's second round. Pepperdine holds an 885 (+33) and California an 890 (+38) for fifth place.
Still leading the Lady Gator pack from the start is veteran Andrea Vander Lende (Longwood) who saw a rougher day today after shooting a 76. Vander Lende is currently in a tie for 25th place after firing rounds of 73-74-76--223, just 10 strokes over par at the Sunriver Resort Course. Freshman teammate Tiffany Chudy (Miramar) is just one stroke behind her senior colleague, carding a three-day tally of 74 and identical second and third rounds of 75 to end with a 224 (+11), good for a tie in 31st place.
Up an incredible 33 spots from a tie in 94th to a tie for 61st in just one round is rookie Sandra Gal (Leichlingen, Germany). Gal finished the third round shooting par on the Meadow Course and is currently 15 strokes over. Her rounds of 79-78-71 garnered the freshman a 228 after the first 54 holes.
Having a great run the first two days of the 2005 NCAA Championship was freshman CJ Kim (Rowland Heights, Calif.). Kim didn't fair so well during the third round of the tournament, firing a high 82 to bring her from a tie in 53rd to a tie for 96th. Kim cards a 75-77-82--234 (+21) for the first three rounds of the Championship.
And rounding out the Lady Gators is freshman Whitney Myers (East Berlin, Penn.) who occupies the tie for 96th with her teammate Kim after shooting rounds of 79-80-75 to end the 54 holes with a 234 (+21).
The Lady Gators tee-time is slated for 4:30 p.m. ET on the Meadows Course in Sunriver, Ore., for the final round of the four-day NCAA Championship. The Meadows Course is a par 71, 6,312-yard course located on Sunriver Resort's property. Results from the final day's round are live and can be found by visiting the GatorZone or GolfStat website.
