UF W-Tennis? Alexis Gordon in Consolation Final of NCTC

University of Florida senior Alexis Gordon won two matches and advanced to the consolation final of the National Collegiate Tennis Classic Saturday afternoon at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
Gordon also paired with Gator sophomore Whitney Benik to defeat Texas' Pera Dizdar and Marija Millic 8-4 in the quarterfinals of the main draw. Gordon plays Northwestern's Georgia Rose for the singles title Sunday morning before playing the semifinal doubles match with Benik.
Benik lost her quarterfinal main draw match 7-6, 6-3 to Southern California's Luana Magnani. After dropping her opening round match to Magnani in her return to the collegiate courts, Gordon has ripped off three impressive straight sets wins to reach Sunday's championship match. On Saturday, Gordon defeated Northwestern's Alexis Conhil 6-3, 6-2 and Texas' Mia Marovic 6-3, 6-0.
At the Freeman Memorial Tennis Championships played in Las Vegas, junior Nina Suvak won her first round consolation match blitzing Tennessee's Melissa Schaub 6-2, 6-0. The other Gators at the event did not play Saturday.
“We just need to play matches since we've been off for so long, that's the bottom line,” UF head coach Roland Thornqvist said. “Nina played much better today and I expect everyone to continue to get better with each match, but we just need to play.”
