Annual Sports Challenge Caps Spring Strength & Conditioning Period
Tuesday, April 25, 2006 | Volleyball
The Gator soccer team rode its momentum from a stunning victory in the Tug-o-War to slip past the volleyball and basketball teams to capture the third annual Spring Sports Challenge.
The Spring Sports Challenge marks the end of the spring strength and conditioning period for the trio of sports, as the teams get together in a friendly but spirited contest of 10 different events to showcase their strength, agility and speed.
The Gator Booters racked up 79 points, with event wins in the Serpentine, the Rope Climb, the Tug-o-War, the 300-Yard Shuttle and the Obstacle Course. The Gator Spikers edged out the Gator Hoopsters 71 to 70, taking individual event victories in the Water Jug Carry, the Tire Flip and Gator Stone Stack, while the basketball team collected top honors in the Medicine Ball Throw and the Tire Rope Pull.
Teams were awarded 10 points for each event win, seven points for second place and five points for third.
The events are the results of the brain storm between the team's strength and conditioning coaches Karin Werth and Matt DeLancey.
