Mincey, Webb Selected On Day Two Of NFL Draft
Sunday, April 30, 2006 | Football
Former University of Florida defensive end Jeremy Mincey and defensive back Dee Webb were selected on the second day of the NFL Draft. Mincey was selected by the New England Patriots in the sixth round with the 191st overall pick on Sunday, while the Jacksonville Jaguars took Webb in the seventh round with the 236th overall choice.
Mincey joins former teammate Chad Jackson on Bill Belichick's squad. A native of Statesboro, Ga., Mincey was a two-year starter on the defensive line, starting all 24 games of his Gator career. Over the span of the 2004-05 seasons, Mincey tallied 110 tackles with 17 of those coming behind the line of scrimmage. He was a team captain in 2005 and was selected to the second team All-Southeastern Conference squads as voted on by both the Associated Press and league coaches. En route to helping lead the Gators to a 9-3 record in 2005, the senior finished with 62 tackles, which was the fourth-best total for a UF player, and earned SEC Player of the Week honors three times over the course of the season.
Webb will return to his hometown of Jacksonville as he became the Jaguars' fifth pick of the 2006 draft late Sunday afternoon. Webb was named to the AP All-SEC first team after leading the conference with 13 pass breakups in 2005 as he wrapped up his third season at UF. He was a two-year starter at cornerback, accumulating four interceptions and 22 PBUs in the process. Webb saw action in 35 contests, starting 24 of those, totaling 102 tackles over that span.
The Gators had three players selected in the 2006 NFL Draft, mirroring the 2005 total.
