Former University of Florida women's basketball guard Danielle Santos (Marietta, Ga.) has been named an assistant coach of the Hofstra Women's Basketball program, Pride head coach Krista Kilburn-Steveskey announced Friday.
Santos joins Ginny Boggess and Carol Peterka as the other assistants on staff also announced today by Kilburn-Steveskey, who was named Hofstra's 11th head coach on May 16.
"What an exciting day for Hofstra University and the Women's Basketball program," stated Kilburn-Steveskey.
"I am so thrilled to have three great assistant coaches with varied skills join our team. Each one of them brings something special to the table; from being a three-time Olympian (Peterka), to working with a longtime NBA shooting instructor (Boggess) or playing basketball in the Southeastern Conference (Santos). Most of all, I am impressed with the energy and positive approach each of them brings to the game of basketball every day."
Santos, a 5-10 guard, capped her four-year career during the 2005-06 season totaling 831 points, 395 rebounds and 265 assists in 107 career games, while starting 76 games. During her senior season, Santos ranked fourth on the team in scoring (9.0 ppg) and second in assists (85), helping lead the Gators to the NCAA Championship.
The new staff is taking over a squad that returns four starters and is coming off its first-ever Division I postseason appearance. Hofstra finished 19-12 in 2005-06, which was the second-most wins in school history, and advanced to the first round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) after defeating Stony Brook in the preliminary round.
