Morrison, Stroup To Represent U.S. At NACAC U-23 Championships

University of Florida 13-time All-American Mike Morrison (Willingboro, N.J.) and recent UF graduate Shane Stroup (Highland, Md.) will represent the United States and be among the 500-plus athletes from 28 countries competing at the North American, Central American and Caribbean Under-23 Championships July 5-7 at the Panamerican Stadium.
The NACAC Athletic Association's U23 Championships are held every two years in one of the 32 member nations of the North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletic Association, one of six regional athletics associations affiliated with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
Morrison, the 2006 SEC indoor and outdoor champion in the long jump, will compete in that event on Saturday at 6:05 p.m. Stroup, who earned All-America honors in the indoor mile and won the NCAA East Regional title in the 1,500m, will compete in that event on Sunday at 4:55 p.m.
Last contested in 2004, Florida's Mike Holloway served as the head coach of the U.S. team that won 28 gold medals, 21 silver medals and nine bronze medals for an overall total of 58 medals. At the 2004 meet, former Gators Kyle Farmer (4x100m), Josh Walker (110m hurdles) and Tiandra Ponteen (400m) captured gold medals, while former Gator Steve Zieminski (3,000m steeplechase) earned a silver and recent graduate Sekou Clarke (400m) took home a bronze as did Farmer in the 200m.
