Seventeen Women?s Swimmers Set for Action at USA Swimming National Championships

The University of Florida women's swimming team will be heavily represented at the 2006 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships, as 13 current Gators and four incoming Gators are set to compete in the five-day affair at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatic Center in Irvine, Calif. Many of the Gator swimmers at the meet will be representing their home clubs as they compete to qualify for five upcoming international meets, including the 2007 FINA World Championships and the 2007 Pan American Games.
Sophomore Stephanie Cota (Granite Bay, Calif./San Jauquin) is scheduled to compete in seven events over the first four days of the meet, including the 200-meter freestyle, 400-meter freestyle, 800-meter freestyle, 100-meter backstroke, 100-meter butterfly, 200-meter butterfly and the 400-meter individual medley. Senior Ashley Carusone (High Springs, Fla./Gainesville), junior Caroline Burckle (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) and freshman Elizabeth Kemp (Potomac, Md./Good Counsel) will also be busy, as each Gator is entered in four events.
Juniors Katie Ball (Cincinnati, Ohio/Saint Ursula Academy), Kim Larson (Longwood, Fla./Lake Brantley) and Natalie Pike (Boca Raton, Fla./Boca Raton), as well as freshman Elizabeth Goldson (Glen Cove, N.Y./Glen Cove) will each be competing in three events. Rounding out Florida's multi-event swimmers will be senior Kristen Harris (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel), juniors Amanda Hartley (Tallahassee, Fla./Leon High) and Samantha Vanderbilt (Nashville, Tenn./Hendersonville), sophomores Laurabeth Guenthner (Wellington, Fla./Wellington) and Kelsy Smith (Cary, N.C./Athens Drive), and freshmen Stephanie Napier (Chattanooga, Tenn./The Baylor School) and Sarah Peterson (Franklin, Tenn./Franklin). Junior Colleen Healy (Cape Coral, Fla./Cape Coral) and sophomore Jenny Lago (Wellington, Fla./Wellington) will be competing in the 100 fly.
