Saturday, January 20, 2007 | Men's Track and Field
Junior Blake Taylor (Lansdale, Pa.) led a small contingent of University of Florida men's track and field athletes with a sixth-place finish on the first day of competition on Friday evening at the Rod McCravy Memorial held in Nutter Field House on the campus of the University of Kentucky.
Taylor competed in the triple jump and the high jump in a span of two hours and led the Gators by taking sixth in the triple jump. Taylor posted a mark of 14.16m/46-50 – the second best indoor mark of his career.
Earlier in the evening, sophomore Eugene Martin (Gainesville, Fla.) was the top Gator finisher as he cleared 1.98m/6-6 to finish in a tie for eighth in the high jump. Only five athletes surpassed Martin's mark, but he tied for eighth due to misses. Taylor and freshman Machel Hunter (Tampa, Fla.) both tied for 11th after jumping 1.93m/6-4.
The bulk of Florida's team returns to action on Saturday when the Gators wrap up competition at the Rod McCravy Memorial. Events are slated to begin at 11 a.m. (ET). Live results can be found at www.ukathletics.com.
