Florida Men's Basketball Dominates Lynn, 101-65

The University of Florida men's basketball team shot 61.2 percent from the floor as a team and knocked down 10 three-pointers to defeat Lynn University in exhibition play Monday night, 101-65, at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.
A total of five Gators scored in double-figures. Marreese Speights (St. Petersburg, Fla.) led all scorers with 18 points. Speights was 7-of-9 from the floor and 4-of-4 from the line while also pulling down seven rebounds. Speights was followed by four freshmen who all scored in double figures. Jai Lucas (Houston, Texas) who dished out six assists to go along with 15 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the field. Adam Allen (Milton, Fla.) added 13 points, connecting on all five attempts, Chandler Parsons (Winter Park, Fla.) also had 13 points while Alex Tyus (St. Louis, Mo.) chipped in 11.
Florida earned their largest lead of the night with :56 seconds remaining in the second half. Michael Weisenberg (Long Beach, N.Y.) connected on a free throw to put the Gators up by 36 points. The Gators had built a 32-point lead in the second half thanks to a 12-4 run that was capped by a Jonathan Mitchell (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) dunk with 11:22 left on the clock.
The Gators led by 14 at the half and built the lead to 24 on the strength of a 21-6 run out of the locker room. Florida allowed just six points to be scored in the first 5:44 of the second half.
Led by Lucas, Florida nearly doubled-up on Lynn from the field, connecting on 18 more field goals than the Fighting Knights while also taking advantage of bench scoring. The Gators bench added 44 points to the effort. Florida also took advantage of the running game, scoring 10 unanswered fast break points, while also outscoring Lynn in the paint 56-24.
Florida finished exhibition play undefeated for the sixth consecutive year and has won 14 exhibition matches in a row overall. The Gators will take on North Dakota State in their season opener Friday November 9 at 8 p.m. in the O'Connell Center in the opening game of the Blue Ribbon Challenge. The game will be broadcast live on FSN-Florida.
