Former Gator Ryan Lochte (Daytona Beach, Fla.) was named the U.S. Olympic Committee's November Athlete of the Month for his performance at the 2007 ConocoPhillips USA Short Course National Championships in Atlanta, Ga.
Lochte departed from the meet as one of the most decorated athletes, setting two American records, first in the 200-yard individual medley and then again in the 200-yard backstroke. Lochte bettered his own previous records en route to setting the new top times. Thanks to his performance in the 200 IM, Lochte was also awarded the Performance Award, after he beat out rival Michael Phelps.
With two American records and another set of gold medals coming in the 50-yard freestyle and 400-yard IM, Lochte was awarded the meet's Kiphuth Award, presented to the meet's highest scorer.
Lochte, who still lives and trains in Gainesville under Florida head coach Gregg Troy, will continue his quest towards Beijing with several upcoming meets, including the U.S. Olympic Trials in June.
