Florida Soccer Players Melanie Booth and Stacy Bishop Named SoccerBuzz.com All-Americans

University of Florida seniors Melanie Booth (Burlington, Ontario) and Stacy Bishop (Land O'Lakes, Fla.) are both part of the SoccerBuzz.com All-America teams, the outlet released Tuesday afternoon. Thirteen Gator players have picked up a total of 26 SoccerBuzz.com All-America honors in the program's 13-year history.
Booth makes her fourth appearance on the SoccerBuzz.com All-America team, making her the first Gator to be honored as an All-American by the outlet in each collegiate season. Three other Gators - Erin Baxter (1996, 1997, 1998), Abby Wambach (1999, 2000, 2001) and Keisha Bell (1999, 2000, 2001) are each three-time SoccerBuzz.com All-Americans.
This season, Booth is a SoccerBuzz.com All-America second team member. She was a third-team member in 2003 and 2005 and honorable mention member in 2004. She sat out the 2006 season due to Canadian National Team commitments and missed the first seven matches of the 2007 season as she was with Canada at the FIFA Women's World Cup in China. Booth started 17 of Florida's remaining 18 matches of 2007, playing the entirety of nine matches. After the final weekend of regular-season action, Booth was named the Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week and to the Soccer America and SoccerBuzz.com national teams of the week. Earlier this month, Booth was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas All-America second team.
Bishop is a SoccerBuzz.com All-America fourth-team selection and is making her first appearance on the outlet's All-America team. She led the Gators in goals (10), assists (10) and points (30) in 2007. Bishop made her second consecutive appearance on the All-SEC first team in 2007 and was named the most valuable player of the SEC Tournament. Bishop was named to Soccer America and SoccerBuzz.com National Teams of the Week following SEC Tournament. She was the SEC Offensive Player of the Week (Oct. 22) after turning in a three-goal weekend (one versus Auburn and two versus Alabama). Earlier this month, Bishop was named a semifinalist for the 2007 Missouri Athletics Club's Hermann Trophy, an award for the nation's player of the year.
Booth and Bishop were joined on the SoccerBuzz.com All-Southeast team by two other teammates. Sophomore Lauren Hyde (Carmel, Ind.) and junior Ameera Abdullah (Denver, Colo.) were both named to the region's second team. Hyde was named to the NSCAA/adidas All-America second-team earlier this month and she made her second consecutive appearance on the All-SEC first team. The defender led the Gators in minutes played from her center back position, averaging more than 91 minutes per match. Abdullah was named to the 2007 All-SEC second team. She turned in four goals and 13 points in 2007, including sharing second on the team with five assists. Abdullah also was named to the SEC All-Tournament team after turning in two goals and an assist in the championship match.
During the 2007 season, Florida turned in a record of 17-5-3, advanced to the NCAA Round of 16 and won its eighth Southeastern Conference and SEC Tournament titles.
