Gators Travel West To Open Outdoor Season At Jim Click Shoot-Out
Thursday, March 22, 2007 | Men's Track and Field
After a disappointing conclusion to the indoor season, the University of Florida men's track and field team will look to regroup for the outdoor campaign beginning with the Jim Click Shoot-Out hosted by Arizona on Saturday, March 24.
The event will feature some of the top track and field teams across the nation, including Arizona, California, Kansas State, South Carolina and Texas Tech.
Florida will send a relatively small contingent of 16 athletes out to Tuscon, including All-Americans Wes Stockbarger (Port Charlotte, Fla.), Bernard Middleton (Jacksonville, Fla.), Willie Perry (Lenoir, N.C.), Calvin Smith (Lutz, Fla.) and senior Mike Morrison (Willingboro, N.J.).
Florida enters the outdoor season with a goal of performing well during the championship season. The Gators will be looking for their ninth top-three SEC finish in the last 11 years, their fifth top-two finish at the NCAA East Regional Championships in as many years and the program's seventh top-10 finish at the outdoor meet in the last nine seasons.
The meet will mark the second consecutive season in which the Gators haven't opened the outdoor campaign by hosting the Florida Relays. In 2006, the meet was canceled due to ongoing construction surrounding Percy Beard Track. This season, the meet was moved back on the track and field calendar to April 6-7.
Results of the meet will be available after its conclusion on Saturday at www.arizonaathletics.com.
