Gators Travel Down I-10 For Florida State Relays
Wednesday, March 28, 2007 | Men's Track and Field
After a solid opening to the outdoor season, the University of Florida men's track and field team will compete for the second time during the outdoor season when the Gators travel west for the Florida State Relays on March 30-31 at the Mike Long Track Complex.
The men's squad fared well at the Jim Click Shoot-Out last weekend as the Gators picked up 10 NCAA regional qualifying marks in Tucson. Freshman Jeremy Hall (Jacksonville, Fla.), who was named the Southeastern Conference Runner of the Week on Tuesday, led the way by winning each of the three races he competed in. He clocked a regional time in the 100m (10.30) and 200m (21.09) and ran the opening leg of the nation's current No. 1 4x100m (39.49). Freshman Calvin Smith (Lutz, Fla.) also fared well with regional times in the 100m (10.49) and 200m (21.16) and he ran the anchor leg of the 4x100m. Sophomore Wes Stockbarger (Port Charlotte, Fla.) turned in a solid effort with a career best mark of 57.59m/188-11 in the discus - a personal record by three inches and the eighth-best mark in Florida history.
The Gators also fared well with their relays as the 4x100m clocked the nation's current No. 1 time of 39.49, while the 4x400m put together an NCAA regional qualifying time of 3:08.81.
