No. 3 Florida Women's Tennis Defeats Alabama, 6-0

It's been more than a month since the Florida women's tennis team completed a home match, but the third-ranked Gators remembered the friendly confines of the Ring Tennis Complex, earning a quick 6-0 victory over Alabama Friday evening.
Due to impending rain, the teams bypassed doubles action and began play with singles. Florida (14-1, 5-1 Southeastern Conference) was able to sweep all six positions shortly before the weather worsened, as the Gators earned their 51st consecutive regular-season home victory, including their 37th straight overall home win. The victory also improved UF's series record against the Crimson Tide (5-11, 1-6 SEC) to 32-0.
“When you're used to playing singles matches after doubles matches, it can be challenging to start with singles, but I thought we did a really good job today,” Florida head coach Roland Thornqvist said. “We showed good intensity and hung on to the ball, no quick errors. Subsequently, we jumped out to good leads on virtually every court. Overall, I think we're playing well.”
Freshman Anastasia Revzina won her ninth straight singles match while posting her first career double-bagel with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout over Shelly Godwin to give the Gators a 1-0 lead. What made Revzina's 50-minute result even more impressive was that she played at a career-high No. 3 spot in the lineup.
Csilla Borsanyi then followed with a 6-0, 6-3 victory on court No. 4 over Alice Tunaru, before senior Nina Suvak captured her 14th consecutive singles win after her 6-2, 6-4 decision against Nicole Briceno at the No. 2 spot. This marked the third straight match Suvak has played at the career-high No. 2 position.
“I've never cared where I play in the lineup, a point is a point for the team and that's all that matters,” Suvak said. “My forehand is working how it used to and I'm feeling more and more confident with each match. I'm relaxed and having fun out there. It was weird playing singles first, plus it was really windy, so it was challenging, but I'm confident in my game right now.”
Junior Whitney Benik polished off the dual match win with her 6-2, 6-2 result over Bianca Svensson in one hour and nine minutes. Junior Lolita Frangulyan then topped Paulina Bigos 6-2, 6-3 on court No. 6, before junior Diana Srebrovic capped the singles sweep with her 6-2, 6-1 victory at the No. 1 position.
Florida returns to action on Sunday, playing host to Auburn beginning at 1 p.m. Last weekend, the Tigers pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the tennis season, earning a 4-3 victory over then-No. 1 Georgia, the team that handed the Gators their only loss this year.
