Philpot Paces Gators At Florida State Relays
Saturday, March 31, 2007 | Men's Track and Field
Freshman Ethan Philpot (Titusville, Fla.) recorded a runner-up finish in the 800m to lead a small group of University of Florida men's track and field athletes competing on the final day of the Florida State Relays on Saturday at the Mike Long Track Complex.
Philpot clocked a time of 1:54.55 to take second in the 800m, while sophomore Scott Clayman (Jacksonville, Fla.) took fourth in the discus with sophomore Beau Burroughs (Tampa, Fla.) coming in sixth in the discus.
With only a limited squad competing in Tallahassee, the Gators picked up five top-three finishes during the meet, which served as preparation for the Pepsi Florida Relays next Friday and Saturday, April 6-7.
Philpot barely missed out on claiming the first individual event victory of his career in the 800m. He crossed the finish line in 1:54.55 – less than half a second behind the winning time turned in by South Florida's Mikail Ebanks.
Clayman captured fourth in the discus with a mark of 43.88m/143-11, while Burroughs was right behind in fifth with a toss of 43.46m/142-7 in the first discus event of his career.
The Gators will return to action on April 6-7 when UF hosts the 63rd annual Pepsi Florida Relays at James G. Pressly Stadium at Percy Beard Track.
