For the second consecutive year, Florida rising junior middle blocker Kelsey Bowers (Gainesville, Fla.) will represent the United States in an overseas under-20 event as she will travel with a group of top collegiate players to participate in the Sibillini Tournament in Comunanza, Italy from July 2-7.
The event will feature several top-flight European teams from the region, including squads from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Serbia, Hungary, Slovenia and Italy. The USA team has participated in the event each of the last seven years, but will be looking to capture the tournament crown for the first time since 2000.
Along with the rest of the members of the team, Bowers will travel to Rome for two nights before venturing north to the Marche Region to compete in the Sibillini Tournament.
In the summer of 2006, Bowers traveled to Argentina with the USA Selects A team. She also trained with the USA Volleyball National A2 Team from 2002-05 and was a member of the USA Youth National Team in 2001.
In her first season as a starter in 2006, Bowers earned All-SEC second team honors after finishing first in the league and ninth nationally with a .405 hitting percentage. She also ended the season second in the SEC and seventh nationally in blocks per game (1.63).
